The Positive Effects of Gratitude Practice
Gratitude practice is a funny thing. The act seems simple, right? List a few things we feel thankful for, appreciate, and recognize in life. But you rarely stop, take a moment to breathe, make a mental list, and truly participate in gratitude activities. Practicing good mental health and wellness as you slow down and live more intentionally will help you create a lifestyle full of inspiring possibilities.
The Importance of Gratitude Practice
I had this thought months ago that if I focused on the things that made me feel truly grateful each day then maybe it would bring me more joy and help me find inspiration in new things. Maybe I would notice more of the generous actions of those around me.
I tend to note things in my head, but I realized the problem did not stem from me not acknowledging it, but from me not recording it. If you do not take intentional moments to record your thoughts, they are often unvisited and only last for a second. When you express gratitude and have a place to revisit, you create a more positive relationship with yourself.
Gratitude Activities Affect your Physical and Mental Health
Doing simple google research, I found practicing gratitude affects your physical and mental health. The benefits range from improving mental health to lengthening sleep, to even bettering physical health. It can boost your career, develop your personality, and help you live longer.
How to Practice Gratitude Activities
Start a simple gratitude journal and begin noting one thing each day. It’s good gratitude practice to take a moment of your time to pause and listen to yourself think. Identify those things that make you smile and bring you joy. I can’t tell you exactly what will happen but I can tell you that it’s a start in a more positive, and encouraging direction.
